2012 World History Unit 1 Overview

Monday, September 24, 2012 is the early day for testing. What this means is that you can test during certain hours but not during lunch time. The best times to show up are between 8:30 and 11:00am or after 1:00 but not later than 3:30. Are you ready for your World History test?

The World History Test will have about 26 questions.  If you review your packet and spend 30 minutes listening, this tutorial will help you.The video player might take a long time to load so be patient.

It is difficult to transition from every day math, and most of the difficulty is from the vocabulary. I am working on ways to make the vocabulary easier to understand. This is also posted on my other site Family Friendly Anime Lets listen in on this short animation as Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock from Star Trek have a discussion about variables and variable expressions. March 2012 Unit 7 World History Review

Here is the Cinch Cast for Unit 7. This one was made last year. I mention picking up a crossword puzzle to use for term definitions, but this year we are using quizlet.com for help and our study sessions.

Also when this recording was made Japan had just suffered its worst disaster ever with the earthquake and Tsunamis that followed afterwards. As you listen you will hear that event being referred to.

Battle of Britain

It seems that one thing through out time keeps repeating. Whenever a country tries to over-run or attack the United Kingdom, they usually lose. Of course the UK has had internal problems like every other nation, but it is amazing what obstacles they have over come through out history.

Researching The Battle of Britain on the internet one can find that even though Germany failed in its attempts to conquer the UK in World War 1, they figured they could do it in World War 2. The Battle of Britain proved them wrong once more.

In WWI it was torpedoes and U-boats. Now with WW2 the battles were being fought with air planes and Germany thought they had the edge over the UK. Did they? What happened in the Battle of Britain? What did the British learn from this? What did the Germans learn?

The following quote is taken from the website listed above.

The Germans thought very little of the British mainland, thinking it could be overtaken through a strategic air campaign followed up by a massive land assault. When weeks of strategic bombing failed to produce the desired results, London and her citizens themselves were struck by a ferocious bombing campaign of terror.

To the skies went the brave RAF, helped along by elements of the Royal Navy, the Fleet Air Arm and ground-based radar installations. Chief among the participants became the Hawker Hurricanes and Supermarine Spitfires against the Luftwaffe's Messerschmitt Bf 109. Hundreds of aircraft made up of bombers and fighters could be called into the skies at a moment's notice.

In the end, the efficiency and bravery of RAF pilots and ground crews along with radar personnel and a stalwart leader in Winston Churchill, brought about the end to the Nazi dream of a conquered England. Perhaps even more important throughout this ordeal was the resolve of the average British citizen - who proved that there was nothing average about him and her at all.

Studying for World History Unit 5 Test

Not much has changed from last year as far as Unit 5 in World History so I am using the same cinch cast for you to study from.

I am in Room 213 not 19 now since we have the new campus. Also the pages on the packets might have changed, too. We make changes every year.

If you can answer all the questions on this Cinch Cast you should do very well on your Unit Test, so get your book, your packet, and take about 30 minutes to go through this and then study your notes.

The French Revolution Part 1

France was not a happy place before the French Revolution. There were high taxes that were only paid by the Third Estate. That is a class of people that included the very poor and unemployed to the wealthy merchants. Even though the merchants were successful, they paid most of their income in taxes. Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were not popular at all because they had extravagant life styles. The people were tired of supporting them. This video sums up what was going on in France during the late 1700s.
